Hi!

Welcome to Animation Obsessive, a weekly newsletter devoted to animation from around the world. We cover a little of everything — including the overlooked and underappreciated stuff.

Keeping up with animation is hard. There has never been more of it available — whether new or old, foreign or domestic, familiar or strange. Getting lost in all this abundance is easy, if you don’t have a guide.

That’s what we’re here for.

Every week, Animation Obsessive rounds up the highlights in animation. That might be a tent-pole Netflix drop, or it might be an unsung indie gem on Vimeo — in Hindi, with no subtitles. Along the way, you can expect looks back at older animation and many more tidbits worth your time.

We believe in fostering a positive space in which to appreciate animation. Animation Obsessive doesn’t wade into industry rumors, gossip, drama or most controversies. We aren’t apolitical — we’re committed to elevating marginalized voices, and to the cause of social equality. However, we prefer to speak primarily through the art and artists we choose to cover. Our goal is to help you enjoy the world of animation in all its beauty and diversity.

Why sign up?

If you follow our Twitter account, you have a general idea of what Animation Obsessive does. But this newsletter brings you much more, in a much tidier package.

Each Sunday, you’ll get a new batch of curated animation highlights delivered directly to your inbox. If you sign up, you’ll never miss an update, and you’ll have free access to our comment sections.

That’s not everything we publish, though. Paying subscribers (members) get access to our Thursday bonus issues, including exclusive chats with creators from around the globe. If you’re hungry for more, or if you’d simply like to offer extra support for what we do here, membership is for you.

Students with .edu email addresses are eligible for a 40% discount off monthly or annual membership. Reach out to us at animationobsessive@substack for a code.

We hope you’ll consider joining the Animation Obsessive community. We’d love to have you.
