These resources are just extraordinary. I think the thing that marks out animation obsessive is its generosity - each post is so full of depth and joy and knowledge and light. Thank you - this made my day!
Thank you! And a lot of them have just popped up randomly over time, as we research, monitor the news, talk to people and so on. We stumbled across Character Design Crash Course on an animation resource list from Turkey!
Super cool! I've actually been using that character design crash course for my high school character design class. He has a great storyboarding crash course as well
As an Over the Garden Wall fan, seeing that Nick Cross guide is super cool! One website I browse often that I haven't seen here is characterdesignreferences.com. Like Living Lines Library, it has an archive of lots and lots of production art in the "Art of Animation" section. There's a bunch of other resources on the site too, like interviews and shorts.
There's a ton of great stuff on Character Design References -- thank you for this suggestion! It's long been a reference for us and may be worth mentioning in a future issue, for those who haven't stumbled across it yet.
Thank you guys again for the educational resources! I cannot stress enough how much you're enriching the animation community with your updates.
Also, have you been keeping up with the launch of MeTV Toons, a 24-hour over-the-air network dedicated to classic animation? It's one of the few things in the realms of broadcast television I've been looking forward to recently.
Thanks for the very kind words, Samuel -- and for the tip! We'd seen the headlines but hadn't looked super deeply into it yet. Hopefully they're able to carve a niche in TV market, as much as it's shrunk in recent years. Boomerang was always a fun watch in the old days, so maybe this can do something similar?
MeTV's cartoon blocks have scored high ratings on par and surpassing those of many syndicated programs, so I think this channel will attract a larger audience than Boomerang simply due to its more ubiquitous availability. According to animation historian and executive Jerry Beck, they will be diving deep into the archives and airing some obscure stuff from studios such as Universal, Columbia, MGM, etc. Definitely worth looking deeper into!
We couldn't believe it ourselves when we stumbled upon it -- definitely one of the most ridiculous finds we've had. And Doucet seems to have updated it again to 1,400+ pages since our issue went out! Glad we could share it some more people.
Glad you got so much out of today's piece! Blender is definitely tricky at first, but thankfully there are a ton of resources out there to help. It's a program we like to recommend to anyone interested in trying this stuff themselves.
I just read the latest edition of the Animation Obsessive newsletter and loved it! The resources you shared are so inspiring. The insight into Northened was fascinating, and the animation news kept me updated with the latest happenings in the animation world.

Ah, this is really kind -- wow. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much! How do you manage to find all of these wonderful resources? You're doing a wonderful job!

So great to hear that you're getting use out of it -- and thank you for the tip!
Amazing as usual. I'm going to be returning to, and poring over, these resources for a while! Thank you for the kind and unexpected shoutout, too 🥹
Thank you, Coleen -- hope they're useful! And always happy to send people toward The Line Between.
This was so niceee!! I loved it.
Thank you so much for giving us all these you always try to entertain us through this.
Glad you liked the piece!

Very cool -- we appreciate this info!
As always - love your work!
I am going to ask - how do you get your logo to animate?
Thank you! And it was created frame by frame as a GIF in Photoshop. Luckily Substack supports that stuff!
Alex Grigg is killing it lately with brilliant 2D animation resources.
Many thanks for the tip -- we'll have to check out his videos!
Oh my gosh that Ron Doucet thing is incredible – and I’ve just skimmed the first few pages! That’s going to live in my tabs for MONTHS.
We couldn't believe it ourselves when we stumbled upon it -- definitely one of the most ridiculous finds we've had. And Doucet seems to have updated it again to 1,400+ pages since our issue went out! Glad we could share it some more people.
I loved the Hidari film, and how I'm interested in learning a little about Blender. Thanks for opening my eyes to some new possibilities.

Wow, thanks for sharing! I had to look this up and watched the Hidari animation and a little of them making it, and they were fascinating.
Thank you! We're big Hidari fans ourselves -- happy to introduce you to the film and its process.
