I'm so glad to see a writeup about this film! It's one of my favourites of Otomo's, and I'm delighted my upload of the cannon firing scene was useful to you. And omg, that documentary is a great find - I've been wanting to see what those backgrounds look like spread out in full for so long! So cool to see!
Thank you! We went looking on YouTube for an example clip and stumbled across yours, which was perfect -- we had to use it. Otomo's shorts get so much less attention than Akira for some reason, but they tend to be great, this one included. Hoping to cover The Order to Stop Construction one day (once we can gather enough material on it).
aaaah! You absolutely must! a magnificent long shot sequence (the whole movie!) and "study" how he did it, because at that time it was impossible to shot...
As expected, another fantastic article. Thank you for the wonderful mention about my database and column on Cartoon Research.
We were happy to shout them out -- keep up the great work. And thanks so much for the kind words!
Neat! I think it's time for a rewatch.

...another gem! ...speaking of flowers, have you seen "Rope" by Hitchcock?
Thank you! And thanks as well for the tip -- we haven't seen that one, but the concept sounds fascinating now that we've looked it up.
